I'm about to embark on the life (or lack thereof) of a veterinary medicine student... I'm not sure what to expect! so live and learn with me...

I know my nervousness is laughable, but I had to contact the school to make sure they received my postcard and that I am indeed a part of the class of 2008. The replies were very cordial: one I received from whomever answers the "contact us" link on the website, and the other was from the assistant dean. She very nicely explained that once the current class is graduated, they can focus more attention on the incoming class, so I should expect to get "lots and lots of information" at the end of May. There will also be a website and listserv (what's a listserv?) for the class so we can contact each other, so I look forward to that. Whew. I can finally relax. A little. I thought a deposit or something would be required, but no. Just a little postcard with your signature on it, saying that you'll come. Actually, it's my mom's signature, but that's okay.

I've found that a lot of veterinary textbooks are now for sale on Ebay, as classes wrap up for the semester. Fantastic. I'm not going to buy too many but there are a couple key texts that are mentioned frequently in book reviews, curriculums, blogs, whatever. So if I can snatch those up for $20 (compared to $70-$100) then I'm all for it! At the very least, I can sell it to some unsuspecting soul next year, right?

The guy I've been e-mailing about condos has all day Monday to meet with my dad and I, so hopefully we can find a place for me to live. I need to remember to bring my digital camera and a notebook so I can keep track of which property is which. I'm not really sure how this transaction will go, because I know we need to deliberate on price, have an inspector look it over, and then agree to buy the place (all of which takes 6-10 weeks). But my dad is hoping I can move my stuff down there in June, so I don't have to move out of my current apartment to home to school. It's not like I have a lot of furniture, but moving is always a pain. At least my dad isn't too worried about price. With the current low mortgage prices, as long as we get about the same price back in 4 years, we'll have saved money. I figure rent at $500 x 12 months x 4 years = $24,000, so buying a place is a good deal all-around. Even if I am going to school in the middle of nowhere. Wow. $24,000? I need to find nice Mother's and Father's Day presents.

So I've taken today off of work to clean up my apartment (how can a one room studio get so messy?), meet with a friend of a friend moving to the city for dinner, and then tomorrow afternoon is my first Cub's game for the season. Despite the projected 60 degree weather, it will be a nice way to round out the week. 3 more months to watch as many Law and Order episodes as I want.
